First post!

Wednesday 12th May
Hi guys,

I've left this a bit late haha

This weekend I'm going to be running a 50k trail run in the Blue Mountains ; it's part of an event called Ultra Trail Australia. It's where all these nuts run through nature and push their own limits of body and mind -  some of these crazies are running 100Km!

It's going to be the toughest physical challenge I've ever done and Im predicting I'll be running about 11 hours or so - starting at 8am, meaning the last three hours or so will be in the dark!  There's also meant to be 2,400m of elevation of gain (2,400m of climb and 2,400m of descent) with the last 10k going uphill!

People who do ultra events tell of various challenges you have to overcome (usually those running the 100k) such as hallucinations, nausea + vomiting, and loss of vision. Because I'm one of the back of the pack runners, I accept this may happen to me too!

However there is something so satisfying about pushing your body to the limits and overcoming what limits your mind had set.  It also helps when you're in a special and magical place like the Blue Mountains. Temp is also going to be fu*8ing freezing. When you can just accept whatever has been thrown in front of you and come out the other side, it connects you with your essence. We are so much stronger than we think we are.

I decided to dedicate this run and fundraise for MSF because it's an organisation that I've always admired. It was one of the reasons I wanted to become a doctor in the first place - to be able to work for them.

Im also currently taking a course organised by MSF in Global health and Humanitarian Medicine for the last year. It's given me insight into the great work that MSF does.

As COVID continues to ravage the world, MSF continues to undertake its work in the most needed areas of the world, recently they have concentrated their effort into India. MSF provides medical care to people despite gender, race, creed, political affiliation. They observe neutrality and impartiality and are independent from political, economic and religious powers which is why they require donations.

I continue to be inspired by their work, so in view of me punishing my body just for a day, I hope you will also be inspired to donate to MSF.  It's totally tax deductible as well.

Thanks guys and I hope you also challenge yourselves and set little goals too in life whatever it may be.

stay safe and healthy
