50km for Medical Aid for Gaza and Lebanon

By Nerine Corbett

Please help raise vital funds for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders)

We are coming close to a year into the escalated conflict in the West Bank.

On October 7th last year, following decades and generations of occupation and conflict Hamas attacked Israel killing 1200 innocent civilians and taking hostages (around 100 of which are still unaccounted for in Gaza).

In the year since, unrelenting strikes by Israel have left Gaza in ruins and more than 40,000 Palestines dead (estimated half of which are women and children). 1.9 million people, as much as 90%, of Gaza's population is displaced. Israel is perpetuating a genocide in Gaza.

Mass casualty events overwhelm medical services, malnutrition is severe, communal diseases (including the detection of Polio) are spreading, clean water is scare. Providing healthcare in a place safe from bombing is near impossible in Gaza and yet MSF teams continue to respond with life saving aid.

You can read a more detailed description here - https://msf.org.au/issue/gaza-israel-war

MSF is also responding is Lebanon where escalating conflict has already killed thousands and displaced over 100,000. Lebanon is home to the largest number of refugees in the world, making its population extra vulnerable.  See more on how MSF is working and your donation could help- https://msf.org.au/issue/lebanon-crisis

An immediate and enduring ceasefire is desperately needed to support aid to get into these areas and protect innocent lives on all sides.

Yet a year into this devastating conflict and despite ongoing international calls for a ceasefire (including the UN General Assembly overwhelming voting on a resolution calling on Israel to end its illegal occupation of Palestine) it still feels far away.

I feel small and powerless in the face of these atrocities, but we all have a chance to take steps to do good for others. So I will be taking on walking 50kms, the length of the Gaza strip, this fortnight to fundraise. While this may be easy to some, those who know me know that I deal with chronic illness with causes chronic joint pain, so this will be no small feat for me to walk this distance. However, when I think about the death, pain and displacement in Gaza and Lebanon it is well worth it.

Please support this effort and make generously so together we can help the vital work in this region of Medicines San Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders).

3 Days Left! $260 to go!!

NEARLY THERE! Can you help reach the goal?

$1240/$1500
40km/50km

For those who don’t know, this fortnight I am raising funds for Doctors Without Borders, particularly their work in Gaza and Lebanon, and challenging myself to walk 50km, the length of Gaza.

I’m just a few days away from the end of time limit I gave myself and so grateful for the generosity people have shown so fair. Together we have raised $1240 in just a week. Thank you so much!!!

Walking this 40km has been beautiful and sunny some days and such a slog others but it’ll all be incredibly worth it to get just a bit of money towards the incredible work MSF are doing.

Their work on Gaza in the last year has included:
7500 surgeries
27500 people treated for physical violence
14500 inpatients
19500 perinatal consultations
18300 mental health consultations
28000 non communicable disease consults
345000 diarrhoea cases treated
25000 people provided drinking water
and much more!

Need in Gaza and now Lebanon is only escalating.

We have healthcare and peace in Australia, the least we can do doing is giving a small amount to aid those living without any safety right now.

Thank you again to all those that have donated so far.
