First post!

Friday 8th Mar

Hi All,

I’m going to be running the 45k Six Foot Track Marathon in the beautiful Blue Mountains tomorrow morning!

I’ve been training for about three months for this event. Several days a week I woke before 6am, slipped into my trail running shoes and headed off to run. Most days, body aches riddled my body upon waking. However, once I got into a rhythm when running, and could see the rays of sun illuminate the darkness in the most beautiful shades of pink and orange, the aches and pains disappeared when my feet touched the uneven, rocky surface on the way to climbing a small mountain. It fills me with awe and gratitude when I get to explore and move through nature.

I can remember telling a friend a few years ago “I’d never be able to do Six Foot; I’m definitely not fast enough to get a qualifying time”. But I surprised myself when I entered a 30k trail run event and clocked a time that enabled me to put in an entry for this event. Capped to 850 people running each year, there is also a lottery ticket draw you must enter despite getting qualifying time for Six Foot. And as luck would have it – I got my golden ticket for this year.  We can do so much more than our own mind-set limitations; we can manifest so much into our lives when we know what we want and when we feel that we are living that manifestation even if we don’t have what we want  just yet. It’s that incessant “not enough” coupled with timidity that prevents us from experiencing the fullness of life.

So, with this opportunity of running Six Foot, I have decided to fundraise for MSF or Doctors without Borders. MSF provides medical care to people despite gender, race, creed, and political affiliation. They observe neutrality and impartiality and are independent from political, economic, and religious powers which is why they require donations. There is so much unfolding across the world; people in Gaza, Ukraine, Ethiopia, and many other countries are experiencing turmoil and devastation in desperate emergency situations. I hope that fundraising will be my small contribution to an organisation making a difference.

Regarded as one of Australia’s toughest marathons, this is a 45k trail that usually takes people 3 days to hike. It’s basically downhill for 15k dropping 1788m and the rest is climbing upwards for the rest of it, climbing a total 1528m elevation.

There is also a time-limit before a person called a sweeper at the back yanks you off the trail….  I will have to do it in under 7 hours to be able to be considered a finisher and I’ll be doing everything I can – blood, sweat and tears to make it to the finish. In view of this and the contribution you’ll be making to MSF, I hope you can consider donating. You can also score a tax deduction too.
