Merry Christmas! (We're still here)

Sunday 14th Dec
Here we are singing out on the streets of Wingham, at the Museum, during the town's annual Christmas Carnival. After a difficult year for the Valley, ravaged by a massive flood and other hardships, we are also remembering others worldwide who have lost lives, homes and hope through the ravages of conflicts they are caught up in. We are privileged to be in a position to continue to support MSF's work.

WE'RE STILL HERE!

Thursday 19th Dec
Exactly 2 years after our big 2022 fundraising concert, earlier this month Wingsong was invited to be the supporting act for the wonderful Sofa of Fools trio when they visited Wingham. Out of that delightful collaboration, we have been able to make another modest donation to the incredibly vital work of MSF on via this special page of ours that has never been closed. We have indeed increased our fundraising total by more than $1000 since our initial concert that raised just over $3,200. It's now $4,328!

As ever our thoughts and hearts go out to families that are devastated by conflict not of their making. May the world's leaders get their act together to end the unimaginable suffering. Meanwhile we thank MSF for non-politically saving lives and alleviating pain wherever it is most needed, treating all people as equal human beings. Best wishes to all, equally, this season.

TURKIYE-SYRIA EARTHQUAKE URGENT APPEAL FROM DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS

Saturday 11th Feb
Although our MSF concert is over, we did put videos of our performance on our Wingsong Choir YouTube channel, so in a way, we are still singing to support MSF. This fundraiser page remains open and is as relevant as ever. Please consider helping Doctors Without Borders in this current unfolding humanitarian disaster, as they are responding by immediately channeling urgent resources into earthquake zones. Many organisations are calling for help, but here is a quick convenient way to make a tax-deductible donation to a highly reputable one. We heard from MSF on day 2 of the earthquake, saying:

How are we responding? / What is MSF doing?

MSF was already supporting hospitals in northern Syria; our medical teams were able to begin a response immediately following the earthquakes:

  • Offering immediate medical care, our teams treated around 200 wounded and received 160 casualties in the immediate aftermath, in facilities and clinics we run or support in northern Idlib.
  • Providing immediate support to 23 health facilities across Idlib and Aleppo governorates.
  • Donating emergency medical kits to other healthcare facilities in the region.
  • Sending MSF ambulances, extra staff to hard-hit medical facilities.

We remain in close contact with authorities in northwest Syria and southern Türkiye to provide support based on their needs and care for people affected by the earthquake.

The situation is extremely fast-moving ...

SUCCESS! Thank you all!

Tuesday 6th Dec
After our hugely successful concert and pop up op shop, and together with prior donations, we have raised $3,204 for MSF! We had a great time presenting a beautiful program, which included an inspiring talk by our member Dr Maureen who worked with MSF over a ten year period. We deeply thank all performers, audience, volunteers, supporters and organisers, and MSF for the incredible life-saving work that they do in a world of strife. Love and peace to all, from Wingsong Choir xxx

The Songs, the Talk, and the Pop Up Op Shop

Tuesday 29th Nov
We are getting excited for THIS SUNDAY'S CONCERT! The first half will be a joyous and varied set staring with acknowledging this country, then paying tribute to some great classic song writers as well as folk songs handed down with authors unknown, and then a soulful message of peace.

The second half will allude to the tragedy of conflict, and its impact on the lives of ordinary folk. There will be a short talk about Doctors Without Borders, by Dr Maureen Van Rossum du Chattel, who has direct experience working in the organisation.

And in between the two sets, you can peruse our Pop Up Op Shop fundraising stall, where Wingsong members will offer up wonderful treasures at bargain prices, all for this great cause! So do bring some cash, apart from the $10 door (kids free)!

OUR CONCERT TIME AND PLACE

Sunday 13th Nov
SUNDAY 4th DECEMBER, 4pm
Wingham Presbyterian Church
32 Moon St, Wingham, NSW.

Entry by donation $10 min but kids are free. There will be TREASURES for sale during intermission, ALL proceeds to be added to this fundraiser for MSF.

Why this concert for Doctors Without Borders?

Friday 11th Nov
Wingsong has always been a a 'community choir' not just because it is open to all (no auditions) but because we sing proudly to support community events and organisations that foster peace, tolerance and compassion. In this concert, our repertoire will include songs to express hope and solidarity for peoples who are torn, and cities that are destroyed, by ongoing wars. MSF is a highly respected charity that is dedicated to saving human lives in critical conflict and disaster zones, regardless of politics, religion or ideology. No borders.

Here is a link to a beautiful traditional Ukrainian folksong, by Moravski Choir of Kyiv, which we have been learning and will be performing in our concert:
